Style to Spare

less than 300 sq. ft.

Drawing Inspiration

From the abundance of workable counter space to the stunning cork floor (which will provide over 30 years of wear!), this room is a comfortable space for family gatherings. Style was not spared for comfort, however, as dramatic cable lighting and floating, colored-glass prisms over the dining table make this kitchen as fashionable as it is functional.

The Winning Point

Unique features create an instantly attractive space. Custom  shelving floats in front of the two-story window, and beautiful java-stained beams help delineate the room's architecture. A television placed above the refrigerator is handy, yet unobtrusive.

Functional Frills

The number one priority of this kitchen remodel, headed by The Design Source Ltd., was to provide more storage and maximize use of the space. Custom cabinetry was provided to accommodate utensils and cookware, the dining table telescopes into the island when not needed (opening up to seat four at mealtimes), and a pair of under-cabinet ovens makes entertaining a breeze.

Judges' Comments

"This room was designed from floor to ceiling – nothing was overlooked. The mixture of stone, wood and metal creates a dynamic look, and the architectural feel of the room is outstanding. The use of prisms to accentuate the natural light is genius."
