Q: How do you translate a client’s wishes into a functional space that reflects his or her personality and lifestyle?

The key is listening, more listening, and then asking questions. In today’s world, spaces can be thoroughly functional, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.

Q: What are the newest trends and/or designs in custom window treatments?

There is a strong trend toward roman shades and panel tracks – especially with the rebirth of urban living. Both can stand alone or be paired with softer treatments. You’re seeing an aesthetic shift toward clean lines, simplicity and more natural, sustainable materials – an uncluttered feel. “Green” design is here to stay. And less is more.

Q: Which colors have emerged on the scene with a bang?

I don’t believe that any one color has come on the design scene with a strong “bang.” Instead, we’re seeing color palettes that reflect our lifestyles. We definitely have an emotional association with color. And consumers can easily identify with one of the combinations from the color forecasts provided by major paint retailers.

Q: Which design styles and accessories are easily blended to create rooms with personal style?

Neo-classical is my favorite style – blending the old and the new. Polished traditionalism and Asian accents are easily introduced into any period.

Q: What “must-have” details help create unique settings?

There is not one specific, across-the-board style that creates a unique setting. It’s about the people who inhabit it. Space must be personalized. You do this with fabrics, furnishings and artwork/accessories that echo the owner’s personality.
