Challenge: To turn a “plain white box” laundry room into a unique space that enhances the home’s design.
Solution: Adding an element of design to a room can help tie it into the rest of a home. In this case, implementing stone veneers into a laundry room helped create an aesthetically pleasing space.
“People don’t want to be stuck in rooms that are boring and drab,” says Mark Wilhelms of Kirchner Block & Brick. The company distributes Virginia Ledgestone from Natural Stone Veneers International Inc., the wall element used to transform this laundry room. The stone is less than 15 pounds per square foot and comes in individual pieces that are 1.5" to 2" thick. Not requiring a foundation ledge, the stone veneers are easily installed and can be applied to nearly any surface with just a bit of mortar. “The stone goes up easily and creates a stylish entrance to an otherwise basic laundry room,” Mark says. Combining this unique surface with the room’s wood cabinetry adds to the overall design and warm, naturally inspired feel of the space, which is a trend Mark is seeing in new construction and in rehabs. “Homeowners are wanting to blend natural materials together – various woods, stone and hardwood flooring,” he says. “The stone and wood combination looks so natural and organic.”  And according to Danielle Klaus at Kirchner Block & Brick, “The combinations of stone are endless, with approximately 30 types of stones that come in a variety of sizes and colors. They can be mixed and matched in any way to create any look.”
