Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, an 18th-century German author and playwright, once said,
“Architecture is music in space, as if it were frozen music.”

And in this one-of-a-kind custom home, you need look no farther than above your head to experience a full-fledged symphony.

Architect and President of Schaub Design Group, Ltd., Dave Schaub, AIA, CGP, is indeed a virtuoso. “This was a dream project,” says Dave. “The owners wanted their new home to reflect the grandeur of a bygone era, and they allowed us to break out of the box artistically to create something truly magnificent.”

The home’s exquisite architectural appointments include dramatic ceilings that make you catch your breath. Dave’s vision for splendor above begins in the home’s foyer, which showcases 18 coffers, 18 inches deep. In the great room, 25 custom-made, 30-inch-deep coffered beams highlight six layers of intricate molding that is truly stunning. “Most people have never even seen 30-inch coffers,” says Dave, “but it was absolutely the right choice for this home. Anything shallower would have been lost.”

Collaborating with some of the area’s finest artisans, this architect-led, once-in-a-lifetime project was truly a team effort. “I think it was the input of all of the experts coming together that made the house so unique and beautiful,” says Dave. “Brian Berger and Chris Brown of Kirkwood Stair took my concept for the dining room’s spectacular Gothic arched ceiling and wall paneling and masterfully fit all of the parts and pieces together into the final built design. This home is truly a masterpiece and a crowning achievement,” he adds.
