“My handy closet makes laundry so much easier!”
– Ginger, homeowner

Creative Space
Organization, ease and accessibility are hallmarks of this creative space. Glass jars, eco-friendly bins and containers allow for all of your necessities to be right at your fingertips.

Ginger and Glen's lodge-style home was custom-designed to suit their lifestyle. At the beginning, an essential element for Ginger - other than her requirement for a sewing room – was a functional laundry space located near the master suite. “In our old house, the laundry room was on the opposite end of the house,” says Ginger. “I actually needed a cart to wheel laundry back and forth from our bathroom!”

Inspired by her former dilemma, architect Matt Mayer and builder Eric Janssen formulated the idea for an innovative pass-through linen closet in the laundry room that would connect the space to the couple's master bath and create an easy-to-use, functional space. “It's very convenient for my husband and me. After his hunting trips, Glen tosses his clothes into the basket from the bathroom side, and I can pull them out easily and put them directly into the washing machine,” says Ginger.

Enriched with custom alder wood doors and equipped with a Bosch Energy Star® front-load washer and dryer, the laundry space is as earth-conscious as it is convenient. Homeowners who want to weave a bit of eco-friendly design into their home might first focus on a laundry room or bath with so many stylish options. When linen shopping, for example, consider purchasing organic or bamboo sheets and towels – both eco-minded fabrics. Look for certified organic and chemical-free fibers in sheets and ultra-soft organic cotton and bamboo fast-drying towels that are energy-saving. Baskets made from natural materials such as wicker, rattan and straw are available at most home décor stores and will keep everything organized.
