Perfectly placed accessories, in hues that complement the rich and serene color scheme, add visual interest to the dresser. Decidedly feminine lamp shades with looped ribbon trim lend a dash of glamour.

Dreaming of a soothing master bedroom retreat that was neither too masculine nor too girlie, Town & Country homeowner Kelley Davis found a fairy godmother of sorts in interior designer Heidi Hartwig.

“We had already painted our bedroom twice,” laments Kelley, “and it just wasn’t right. We started out brown, then went blue, but it kind of just fell flat. We wanted something more dramatic in here, but at the same time, we needed the space to be calming.”

Kelley and her husband, Dave, had already worked extensively on the rest of their home with Heidi, owner of design firm Fabulous Finds, and were anxious to let the designer’s creativity come alive in their master bedroom. “I like to work from the walls out when I create my designs,” says Heidi. And so she had those flat walls transformed with an enchanting stria wash, blending blue, brown, green and a hint of metallic. “This was just what we were looking for,” beams Kelley.

With the backdrop in place, Heidi turned her attention to the accoutrements that would complete this peaceful haven. “My clients already had a gorgeous sleigh bed, two nightstands and a dresser, but that was really it. We needed to add everything else.” Working with the sophisticated color palette of chocolate brown, soft blue and rich gold, Heidi found stunning fabrics that were made into window treatments befitting this fairy tale of a room.

Four panels of blue, gold and brown plaid silk are topped with blue floral swags, beautifully embellished with coordinating ball and fringe trim. Faux roman shades in a rich chocolate brown silk connect the panels, drawing the eye upward and across the bank of windows.

The same delicious floral fabric is repeated on a sumptuous duvet. Reversible, with pinstripes dressing the other side, the versatile duvet allows Kelley to switch up the look. A gold matelasse coverlet offers yet a third option.

Two handsome brown leather chairs with a round table between them provide a cozy seating area and give a nod to the masculine. “Dave really wanted the leather chairs,” says Kelley. “My first thought was to have chairs upholstered in a gold fabric, but now I really love the leather. It adds texture and interest to the room.”

As the name of her business indicates, Heidi is a pro at finding “fabulous” things. “With the walls, window treatments and bedding complete, it was just a matter of filling in the blanks,” says Heidi. “Lamps, accessories, floral arrangements and photos are the final touches.” A beautiful portrait that the family had taken on a trip to Florida hangs proudly above the bed, the sandy white beach, glassy blue ocean and ruddy green grasses perfectly complementing this dreamy escape.
