If a stroll through Bill Stack's Mediterranean-style residence isn't a sufficient testament to the quality of artisanship at Koch Bros. Decorating, Inc., then a peek at the company's impressive portfolio will explain how Bill Stack continues his grandfather's business. A leading St. Louis full-service painting and decorating company, it  has earned a reputation as outstanding as its work. “These businesses are so dependent upon the owner and rapport with clientele,” says Bill. “Our name means something.” And because Bill decided to follow in his grandfather's footsteps, the business that began in 1930 still thrives today.

In the tradition of European master painters, Koch Bros. artisans are experts in decorative and faux painting – talents that were handed down through the generations. From the time Bill was 12 years old, he worked alongside his grandfather and a staff of professional painters in order to learn everything he could, from woodgraining to the illusion of trompe l'oeil. “Everything I learned was on the job,” says Bill. “Part of the fun of the business is trial and error, and sometimes you have happy accidents.”
 
Trips to Europe and a weeklong Venetian plaster workshop in Italy have been the inspiration for many of Bill's designs and techniques. Stencils, styles and colors reminiscent of Old World Europe are scattered throughout Bill's finished works and in his own home. His talents enable him to transform an ordinary wall into a beautiful Mediterranean coastal scene or create a subtle yet shiny alternating stripe pattern that adds the perfect touch of artistry to a room. Bill says that being given artistic freedom in any project is fun, but translating a client's dream into reality is just as rewarding.
