French Flair
Walking into the 461-square-foot kitchen, you feel as though you’ve been transported to France. Reclaimed wood beams on the ceiling add a rustic element. By minimizing modern appliances as not to give a too “kitcheny” look, brooksBerry Kitchens & Baths was able to create an Old World French atmosphere. A monumental stone and hammered pewter hood top the French range. The island is styled to resemble a distressed flower shop workbench in a pewter matching the hood. Next to the cooktop, two recessed niches house spices and oils. A coffee bar off the breakfast area features a sink and iron étagère. A wide plank, distressed lime washed floor complements the Old World style. One challenge brooksBerry faced was designing the kitchen around four doorways and a wall of windows.

Judges’ Comments: This simple, elegant and rustic kitchen is beautifully detailed. The wood beams are the perfect touch. The two-tone island and hood tie nicely with the rest of the space. Including a faucet by the coffee pot is smart and functional.
