Seating, Storage, Style

Used as additional storage, a coffee table or an extra seat, ottomans are an essential in any room’s seating arrangement. Brought to Europe from Turkey in the 18th century, the ottoman has continued to grow in popularity and evolve into a stylish seating piece. Check out local designers' favorite ottomans.

“I love this ottoman because it stands the true test of time. I purchased a round hassock with one of my first paychecks 20 some years ago. It is spacious, comfortable and has storage inside for blankets, Legos or small children! Mine used to get inside and roll across the living room floor, and it is still pristine today.”  Joni Spear, Joni Spear Interior Design.

“The tightly woven texture of this piece creates an organic feel. The top lifts off for storage of your favorite throws. Pairing this in a grouping adds seating options and flexibility. This is wonderful to give a casual, cozy feel with a nod to nature!”  TJ Rinn, Savvy Surrounding Style.

“The Villa Rica Ottoman by Mr. and Mrs. Howard has an interesting Asian-inspired metal base that will coordinate well with many other finishes in a room. I love that it’s light enough to easily pull into any existing furniture group for additional seating. The fact that it’s a gorgeous stand-alone piece doesn’t hurt either!”  Emily Castle, ASID, Castle Design.

“This fun ottoman is from Arteriors.  We are in love with the vivid colors available, the nail head trim details and its perfect size!” Tamsin Mascetti, Allied ASID, Tamsin Design Group.

“My favorite ottoman is this upholstered beauty by Pearson. The wood stretchers form a curving hexagonal pattern making this ottoman an outstanding find! A solid textured fabric or leather upholstery will not compete with the interesting base. In addition, the flooring underneath the ottoman should be a contrast without a busy pattern.”  Cindy Kistner, ASID, G.M. Doveikis & Associates, Inc.
