Floors can be the foundation of your room’s design chosen to drive the style and look of the space. Traditional, oriental, contemporary, shag… no matter your style a rug will infuse color, texture and warmth into any room in your home. SLHL asked local designers their favorite rug style.

“I love this traditional pattern with updated soft colors. It's easy to pair fabrics with and is a wonderful ground for a colorful room.”  -Teddy Karl, Allied ASID, The Great Cover-Up. Rug available at Rugs by Saga.

“The Appalacian rug is a fresh twist on the popular hair-on-hide rugs. The bold geometric pattern made out of luxurious natural hide adds flair and richness like no other flooring can. The cool sophistication of the gray tones in this rug adds depth and elegance and works well with any decor.”  -Meredith Wanamaker, Niche.

“I love the graphic nature of this rug. The design placement draws your eye as it complements and accentuates your design.  I feel it can bring interest and style to the space.”  -CJ Knapp, ASID, Savvy Surrounding Style.

“This rug is an absolutely beautiful statement piece. It was custom designed to complement the exact pattern of the wallcovering in the dining space.”  -Kris Keller, The Design Source LTD.

“I love the dark background of this rug.  I think that rugs with a dark background just set off a room and the furniture; they are very striking. I like the symmetry of the pattern as well.  There's a lot going on in this rug, but the symmetry simplifies it.  It gives it sort of a calming effect. This rug has wonderful, rich, warm tones.”  -Teresa Drury, ASID, Textures Interior Design. Rug available at Rugs by Saga.

“The tone-on-tone area rug in this arabesque design is tufted wool with a raised sheer design made of silk. It creates a nice backdrop to any furnishing and color schemes and adds a touch of sophistication”  -Jane Ganz, ASID, Directions in Design, Inc.

“This hand-woven rug, called Monster, is by Milton Glaser for Lapchi. The joyful pattern is a refreshing alternative to traditional Orientals and is available in four colorways. Lapchi creates made-to-order carpets, which are customized to the exact size and shape of each homeowner’s specifications.”  -Emily Castle, ASID, Castle Design.

“I like the color palette of this rug - and its great pop of color. I would use it in a room with coral or gold walls and keep the furniture upholstery neutral. It would also look good with lime green.”  -Tom Manche, Tom Manche Interiors. Rug available at Aminis.

“A neutral rug with pops of understated color grounds this casual, yet sophisticated rug. I love the oversized scale of the rug, which adds whimsy and makes it a fun, eclectic addition. This rug works well for a family or hearth room keeping the room simple and tailored.”  -Gigi Lombrano, ASID, Gigi Lombrano Interiors. Rug available at Volume Carpet.
