There can be a lot of pressure when it comes to being a great host but these tips will help you enjoy the evening rather than feel the stress of entertaining!

The first thing to do to prepare for a great night is set the scene. Do this by incorporating a simple, yet effective centerpiece. A small plant from the yard or a bowl of fresh fruit can help set the scene for great times around the table.

A candle is essential to setting the right dinner party ambience. Gather various sizes of unscented candles together create a great look with a little amount of work.

Set the tone with a great playlist. Create a long playlist full of everyone’s favorite classics that can go all night long so you don’t need to think twice about it once the party starts.

As for drinks, a variety of wines is always a safe bet. You can also make a batch of cocktails with the alcohol on the side. This allows those to pour in their own or enjoy it without alcohol.

Put together a classic appetizer by making a charcuterie board.  Place three different choices for cheese. Let the softer cheeses come to room temperature before serving for best taste and preslice the harder meats and cheeses for easiest serving. Try choosing meats with various fat contents by opting for lean, middle-of-the-road and fatty options. In addition, throw anything else you like on there for snacking - nuts, fruit, chips, crackers, ect.!

Some may think of the meal as the most stressful part, but keep it simple! No need to test every recipe beforehand or over think it.  Use fewer, fresher ingredients to keep prep time low. If it’s warm where you are, be sure to choose recipes that will stand up to the heat. Serve family style for the most intimate and conversational environment.

The party doesn’t have to be over once dinner is finished! Games are a great way to keep the party going, and a great excuse to open another bottle of wine. Serve up some simple snacks for something sweet. There’s no need to go all out for dessert, anything cheap from the store will be great for all! If outdoors, keep the party going long after dark, by a little outdoor lighting. A strand of string lights or a set of simple votives hung from tree branches will set the mood with a soft, glittering glow.
